In February of 2011, he had a twelve hour surgery for his hips. It was arduous, he needed a blood transfusion the next day, and he spent the next six weeks in a body cast. When that cast came off, he broke his femur in half because of the weakness of his bones. He spent the majority of 2011 in a cast of some sort, and to cheer him up we asked Peach’s Neet Feet if he could have a pair of shoes.
When they arrived, he loved them and wore them everywhere! Once he was cleared to be physically active again, we took him to the skate park in Venice with the “They Will Skate Again” program that Life Rolls On puts on. Kumaka skated that park like a pro, even winning an award.
His shoes are a reminder of the things that make him happy, like WCMX. He now goes to the skatepark weekly if possible, as well as playing wheelchair basketball, surfing, and wheeling 5K’s. He told us recently he wants to swim in races next.
He is a different boy now, and his Peach’s Neet Feet shoes are on his feet as a constant reminder that he has no boundaries… he can achieve anything his imagination can dream up!
