Community art center opens in Farmington

After years of influencing children suffering from cancer through her art, Madison Steiner, the founder of Peach’s Neet Feet, is opening a community art center to help others find their inspiration through the arts.

“Art has always been an outlet to do something more,” Steiner said about how art has influenced her life.

Now she hopes the center, known as the MadLab, will help others. The MadLab, located at 701 S. Tucker Ave., offers a variety of classes for people of all age and abilities.

“A lot of stories can be told with art,” Annie Smith, the vice president of Peach’s Neet Feet, said during an open house today.

“People who don’t normally have a voice can find a voice through art,” Melissa Firestone added.

Firestone, who has taught classes at the ARC, is bringing her skill with art to the MadLab to teach the adult classes.

Steiner also hopes to get more people involved in Peach’s Neet Feet – a nonprofit organization that paints shoes for cancer patients.

She hopes the older children who are taking classes at the community classes will be able to paint shoes for Peach’s Neet Feet.

Celeste and Zach Stradling attended the open house with their children to support the MadLab.

“We just think it’s really awesome to have this for the community to bring their kids to,” Celeste Stradling said.

She said they have already picked up a calendar of classes and made plans to attend several of them.

Smith said they hope the center will be a place for people of all ages and walks of life.

“We really want this to be a community hub,” she said.

Steiner echoed that sentiment.

“When they walk through the door, everyone’s just here to do art,” Steiner added.
